No turning back now...

Hello all! And welcome to my Birthday Bike Ride Blog!

Most of you reading this first blog, in real time, know me already. Eventually, I guess, there will be strangers tagging along as well. In either case, I'm happy to have you along for the ride!

Those of you who have been following my emails (and aversion to most social media) for quite some time, are probably surprised to see something like this published and "out there". (Thanks, Becca, for the wix tip!) To tell you the truth, I'm a little surprised myself. But, after so many months of saying, "It's coming" and "I'm working on it", today was the day to accomplish it.

You get two things in the first post: 1) what I've been up to lately (as far as biking goes) and 2) What plans are in place for Summer of 2017

1)

A quick look back tells me that I last sent an email to update my biking plans 3 months ago. Since then, I've enjoyed a rather mild winter here in New York, so I've been able to keep my biking on the road for the most part. But my 2 mile round trip commute does not equal any serious training session for my summer ride.

Therefore, I headed to NC in December and enjoyed some biking with Jon. I finally set up my trainer at home and added some "longer" rides in my living room. And this week, Winter Break, we've enjoyed 60 degree weather all week. I've got one more day to break the 100 mile mark for the week. I couldn't have asked for a better vacation right now.

2)

My plans have slightly altered since I last shared them with you. I'm flipping the order to make sure I don't miss a birthday celebration in Detroit, in June. I know I'll see many of you there, too.

So, I will plan to leave NYC sometime before June 30. Work my way through the Midwest & my old stomping grounds. I will probably head south through OH, after the birthday party, to IN. Then on to points in IL & MO before heading north toward Chicago & Milwaukee. I hope to make it to Minneapolis, MN by the end of July or beginning of August. Amtrak will take me from there to Spokane, WA for the "upper West" portion of the trip through to Seattle.

This, of course, is only an outline of the trip. Circumstances and life will dictate most of the actual route and timing. But, this blog will be the nerve center of the planning. So, those of you who will be part of the fun, keep an eye on it and let me know where you will be able to fit in.

In the meantime, thank you for your prayers and encouragement!

Peace, Kathy
