Winter has arrived

I can tell I will need to be a little more pro-active to keep up with this blog. It is not a normal thing for me to be online so often... But, to let you know what has happened... I finished up the February break just short of 100 miles. Since then I've had some sporadic success on the road and in the living room with some longer rides.

This past Monday I spent some time at the Mechanical Gardens Bike co-op that meets in my church basement every Monday. It is a great time to hang with like-minded people and learn some ins & outs of bike maintenance. I spent the evening re-stringing a break line and adjusting my breaks. (Seems I should true my front wheel next time I go.) Unfortunately, I only got one trip on the road with my new breaks because on Monday night, NYC was hit with a "nor'easter". That means that I got a snow day on Tuesday, but have not been able to bike outside since. So, the alternative is what you see below. As you can see, there is just enough room in my apartment for my bike. It's not as exciting as being outside, but at least I'm looking in that direction. In between sneezes and coughs this weekend, I'll try to get a few "miles" in. I am anxiously awaiting the thaw and a healthier disposition soon.

As far as my plans go for the summer, I've just contacted several of my friends and family about a route. Once I hear back from them, I'll be able to start setting things up in detail. Keep an eye out here for all of that!

Also, I've learned about a house share program for those who bike across country, "Warm Showers". This will be something I can use along the way as an alternative to hotel stays.

Even though I don't feel as organized as I would like for this trip, I am continually surprised at what is possible.

So, hoping you're enjoying the ride today!

Peace, Kathy
