Bikers, bikers everywhere!

Now, I know that I may not be the purist. I call myself a biker, even though that brings to mind a leather jacket and a Harley to some. That's not me... But the gear that I do sport, renders me recognizable to a certain segment of the population, and immediately welcomed into the club.
Because the musical is a week from tomorrow and my school days are lengthening, it is difficult to get any rides in. So, I combined work and pleasure this evening, boarded my bike and took off for Michael's for some golden feathers and to Home Depot for some casters and paint. As I made it up in the paint line, John, behind the counter, greeted me with "so, you rode your bike!" (he saw my helmet in the cart) He dove right into sharing his views on wearing a helmet, and his plans to ride cross-country. He lamented the lack of personal communication "these days" (which he may just be trying to combat single-handedly!) It was a lovely conversation and it seems as though we've both gained a new friend (or, at the very least a friendly aquaintance every time I'm shopping at the Home Depot.)
I know I will meet many different bikers in the months ahead. Some will wear leather and others will sell paint. It is my prayer that I will be able to look past the bike and into the person, allowing for that connection which makes biking all the more worthwhile!
