Day 8 - "one down"!

I know it seems strange to be calling Day 8 my first day on the ride. But, that's what it feels like. Up until now, I've been riding "to and fro". Now, I'm just riding "to". So, one down, and more on the way.
Today, I thank God for:
-all of you who have been thinking about & praying for me and even letting me know that. It made today an awesome day!
-excellent weather! I checked last night and saw a wide swath of green storms coming across Ohio. I expected rain to start the trip. There was a small shower when I woke up in Dearborn, but nothing but comfortable cloud cover and occasional sun to get me going today!
-the shade trees under which I took my breaks
-all the amenities of home at this Holiday Inn Express! : )
-my brother-in-law who fed me breakfast, gave me raisins, and bought me almonds today
-the kitchen staff at Arby's & ZaZa's who made me lunch & dinner
-the Toledo Mud Hens game on TV!
-I am slowly learning how my new smart phone works... So look for some current photos along with one of these blogs soon. : )
Today was a good day. I know I will sleep well. And tomorrow I do it all over again! This will be the true test of the plans I've been making. It was fine to ride 40 miles last Wednesday, then take the next 4 days off for a rest. I spent 61 miles on the road today. But no rest tomorrow; I've got another 60 miles to ride to make it to Defiance, OH.
So, thank you for the continued prayers!
On a side note... Some of you know that I have been logging my mileage in June for the Great Cycle Challenge. This is an organization dedicated to raising funds to help support research for children's cancer. I was just told yesterday that they will be keeping the challenge open through the month of July. This is TOTALLY UNRELATED to my cross country vacation adventure. But, I will continue to log my miles and if you so choose, you may donate to the cause. This donation does nothing to support me, but it is certainly a cause I support. Here is that website: https://greatcyclechallenge.com/Riders/KathyWitto
