Day 13 - easy yoke, light burden

I began the day with a devotion based on Matthew 11:25-30. It was entitled Rest for the Weary. That caught my eye. Of course I have been weary; weary from physical excursion, weary from mental strain (co-ordinating routes with various people's schedules & navigating unfamiliar roads), weary from what life offers. You can relate!
My visit in MI offered some rest I needed, from the school year and time spent being "Ms. Witto". The bike ride here offered me some rest from the burdens of responsibility. These days in Indianapolis have offered me some rest from the bike ride itself.
But none of that is the point! Jesus says, "...Take my yoke upon you and learn from me...for my yoke is easy and my burden is light." Seriously!?!? Jesus thought his burden was light!!!
I took some time to process this and came to this conclusion. His burden was light because Jesus was never alone. No, I don't mean the disciples, or the crowds. (If you never noticed, all of that was rather draining!) He was constantly yoked to his Father. That's the point.
So, on Monday, when I load up that burdensome pack & head out again for another 50 miles, or when your alarm goes off to wake you for another day at work, or your child asks you the same question for the 20th time... yoke yourself to the Father. The invitation to join him and the promise of rest is for all.
