Day 21 & 22

How did it get to be 11:30 already? Day 22 was quite different from Day 21. I got 62 miles in on Sunday, zero today. I got up and went to bed at the same time on both days. I was out on the heat and the sun on Sunday. I sat in the air-conditioning most of today. I was up the whole day yesterday; I took a nap today!
But, even with the nap, I am quite tired again (still) tonight. So, here are the highlights...
Sunday: I made it to church on time. I didn't think I would. I was 10 miles away, biking into the wind, with legs that didn't seem to want to move. But I pulled into the parking lot as the call-to-worship bells were ringing.
Sunday: I had paved bike trails about 90% of the way into St. Louis, AND they were well marked.
Sunday: At one water & icecream stop, I struck up a conversation with Charlie. It was obvious he spent a lot of time outside the gas station, just sitting, mostly being ignored by those who passed by. I said "hi" on the way in & since I had to eat my ice cream before I left, anyway, I said "hi" again on the way out. What was said is not so important. If you're curious, ask me sometime. But the simple reality of the conversation was crucial. The look on his face and the genuine appreciation of the time I gave him convinced me that this "extra break time" was time well spent!
That encounter with Charlie was a good reminder of the saying (sorry, forgot who said it...) "Preach the Gospel at all times, if neccessary, use words" When I left Charlie, he knew he was loved, something I bet does not happen every day for him.
Sunday: After a few too many hills, miles, and hours, I found a place to chill & called a cab for the last 8 miles of the day (one hour by bike, 10-15 minutes by car). Good thing I did! The rain, sunset, & hilly curves of the road would have made it even longer!
Sunday: Slept like a rock! Thank you for the use of your bedroom, Melina!
Monday: Got some laundry done, took a nap, visited with the Alders, walked the dogs three times, and began plotting the next legs of my trip.
