I've made it to the train. And there's a bit of chaos, but all will be settled soon. I wish I could focus on writing my day, but there is still so much going on.
Eric is sitting behind me, Josh next to me, a woman and her 98 year old mother sitting in front of me.
As Josh just said, "Everybody's got a story on the train..."
Eric brought his bike along, too. 4 years ago he was paralized. He just completed a cross country bike trip (without the air quotes). He rode anywhere from 65 to 100 miles a day. Josh is heading to work a few states over; 2 weeks there & 2 weeks home is the pattern. Another family is heading to a funeral for a niece. I'm on vacation. Seventy people got off the train & 70 people boarded the train in St. Paul. Everybody has a story.
Here's mine for Day 46.
It was a nice slow day, even though it was packed full. Saw Julie off to work and enjoyed some breakfast before I caught up with Beatrice for details about the last leg of my trip. I researched a little bit of lodging before I had some lunch, joined by Steve. After noon, I used the Tiger game for background noise as I packed, again. I tried something new this time and had to think a little bit more deeply. (Now my tent & helmet are in the checked luggage & my extra food is with me. I think that is a good exchange! 😉)
The cloudy day was turning sunny and before I packed my helmet away, I wanted to take one more ride. The Arboretum was close & I wanted to check out some things that the rain prevented me from seeing yesterday. As soon as I was ready to go, rain poured down.
It was pretty random, and did not last long, but this was the result: All along the route, the steam rose from the hot, wet pavement, surrounding the familiar in mystery. Dylan took me up the back road to the distant barn, that wasn't so distant afterall. We saw the birdhouses on display and even made it back in time for dinner.
One might think that "dinner" was the end of the day, not at Julie's house! 😉 We took off for the train station by way of the Minnehaha Falls, well worth the side trip. The sunset was pretty amazing, too.
Things have settled down now. Most are asleep or soon will be. I'm gonna find my extra layers and blanket for my nap, too. But I think I'll have a cookie first! 🤗
That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it!
