Day 52 - in His hands

I have thoroughly enjoyed the vastness of the scenery that I've seen over these last two months. The photos do not show the expanse the naked eye can observe. I've never been so close to the plateau/steppe region of our country. And the stars tonight are the brightest I have seen since I began this trip. Tonight's cool breeze is a welcome relief from the strong sun of the day.
And yet, on the distant horizon (across the reservoir, so we are safe) is a wild fire that can be seen so clearly through the darkness of night. Bright orange flames off to the west are signs of the dangers this part of the country has faced this entire summer.
When I arrived at the campground, I was sad to learn that we could not place our tents on the grass; the sprinkler system runs randomly from midnight til 6am. (Weekend campers get a break from that restriction.) Now, I'm rather thankful that there is an extra level of protection from the dry conditions.
Many of you have wondered, and I've lost count of how many times I've been asked, if I felt safe through this trek.
Every step of the way!!!! When I was lost, I felt safe. When a storm was on the way to my campsite, I felt safe. As I was biking through the bad parts of town, I felt safe. When I was alone in my hotel room, I felt safe. When I was biking in the rain, I felt safe. When Susan & Lee took me to their house, I felt safe. When Greg & Rick drove me "just a bit further", I felt safe. When Kim, Darcy, and Uncle Wayne & Aunt K came to pick me up, I felt safe. When I slept on the couch or in the guest bedroom, I felt safe.
Tonight I feel safe. I have my friends set up next to me and a car to drive me out if needed. There are park rangers monitoring the situation, whom I trust will make sure all of us in the campground are safely evacuated if needed. The stars above and the expanse all around me are evidence of a God who loves His people and cares for me.
Why would I not feel safe?!? 🤗
Lord, be with those in the path of the flames. Provide an escape and safe lodging tonight. Protect those firefighters charged with attacking this fire and the others here in the West. Comfort those who are afraid, through the loving hands of any in a position to serve them. Amen.
